Routine eye examinations are an important component to maintaining healthy vision. Eye examinations are the first critical step toward correcting your vision. They involve taking measurements of the eye's focusing power to determine if any correction is necessary, and also a comprehensive medical examination to determine the general health of your eyes. Your Visit. At Edina Eye Physicians & Surgeons, P.A., we begin an eye examination with your Ophthlamic Technician. Your technician will take measurements of the eyes called a refraction, which tells the ophthalmologist whether and how much correction you will need. The ophthalmologist will see you next, reviewing the chart and measurements. Using special diagnostic instruments, the doctor will look into your eye, checking the eye's general health and checking for any abnormalities. Some of these may include:
- Blocked Tear Ducts
- Corneal Disorders
- Cataracts
- Conjunctivitis
- Detached and Torn Retina
- Diabetic Retinopathy
- Dry Eye Syndrome
- Eyelid Disorders
- Floaters and Flashers
- Glaucoma
- Macular Degeneration
At the end of your visit, the doctor will discuss his findings with you, answer any questions you may have and advise you when you should return for your next exam. If you wear contacts, they will send you to a technician at Medical Contact Lens Corporation to have the condition and fit of your contacts evaluated.
