Experience
Dr. Barer completed his undergraduate studies and received his medical degree from Cornell University in New York. He served his
internship in internal medicine at Rush-Presbytarian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and his residency at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Barer has been in private practice in the Twin Cities since 1978 as both a comprehensive ophthalmologist and eye surgeon.
As a Captain in United States Air Force Dr. Barer served as Flight Surgeon and Commander and Director of Base Medical Services at the USAF Hospital Tainan, Tainan Air Base in the Republic of China. He received the USAF Commendation Medal, a National Defense Service Ribbon and was distinguished as Honorary Flight Surgeon, Chinese Air Force, Republic of China.
Dr. Barer is also a Clinical Professor for the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. He is board-certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
